International and local research indicates for many women working in fire and emergency industries, particularly those that work in gender isolation, networking is hugely beneficial.
Informal discussions amongst others who understand the nature of the job and the culture, can help to create a safe, inclusive atmosphere.
WFENZ provides opportunities to network and make connections with other women in fire services roles.
This is a closed Facebook group page for female fire services personnel created so that we have a space to share ideas, support and inspire each other.
If you are a woman in the NZFS or part of rural fire feel free to ask to join the group.
We are in the process of establishing a regional network of both career and volunteer NZ Fire Service staff. We envisage the regional representatives will act as information ‘points’.
We are still working on the job description for these roles, and the support systems to enable the network to work effectively.
In the future we plan to have a calendar of events on this site so that you will be able to keep up to date with what is happening in your region.
In the interim, should anyone need to contact us for support
or advice email firstname.lastname@example.org
At the international level we have members who are part of Women and Firefighting Australasia (WAFA) Board.
